Our 2013 Christmas Carol
And.. here's is our Christmas Carol this year. As we mentioned in class, the tune is the same as the one they've used in that rather controversial TV spot we all know of. This is one of the reasons why I've chosen this song. The other reason is that the song tells about a love story that has possibly ended and how the singer regrets not having done things that would have changed the situation, that is, it talks about unreal situations, something we've lately been dealing with in class.
So, how can you work with the song? DO THE EXERCISE FIRST, WITHOUT LISTENING TO THE SONG. Try to understand and match the two halves of the sentences. Then, when you've finished, listen to the song and check your answers.
Here's the exercise:
And here's the song. I like this video of Elvis Presley, when his old days of glory had long gone by. Still, I think that the version of the song is the first one, so the images do not correspond. Do you agree?
And finally, while I was working on this activity I was listening to this album by Elvis Presley. I recommend 'Blue Christmas' as an excellent instance of those soft rock ballads Elvis was so good at. But, if you prefer any other song from that album, please write a comment and tell us all!
By the way... Merry Christmas!

You are right. It seems not to correspond with the images.
ReplyDeleteThe album you are suggesting is the appropriate for Christmas days. I think it is a bit soft but good enough.
'Always on my mind' suggests me this version by the British music group Pet Shop Boys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYZDfUB5OpY
Happy New Year!

ReplyDeleteHi teacher,
ReplyDeleteI agrede with you, in the video he appears physically beginning his decline.
About the song Blue Christmas, I have to say that I didn't know it. Really I don't like Christmas song, but after I have heard that song I have to admit it's a sweet ballad and always is a pleasure and emotion to hear the wonderful voice of Elvis.
